YOUTH SPEAKS – ZONE FINAL held on Tuesday 10th February 2009

The Zone final of Youth Speaks was held at the John Lister Postgraduate Centre, Wexham Park Hospital.  This event had been postponed from the previous week because of the heavy snow in the area.  The event was well organised by Rotarians from Slough and teams from Hillingdon, Windsor & Eton Slough and Ascot took part.

The Zone Final was divided into two competitions, one for the Intermediates and the other for the Seniors.  Each competition was keenly contested and it was evident that the young people competing had put a lot of effort into their presentations and the standard was very high indeed.  The Chairman of the Intermediate competition, Professor John Eliott, considered that the standards were improving every year and this demonstrated the value of this excellent competition organised by Rotary.  This view was echoed by Mrs Sarah Mengham the Chair of the Senior Competition.

The Ascot Rotary members turned out in force to support our excellent teams namely St Georges School, Ascot, in the Senior Competition and Charters School, Sunningdale, in the Intermediate competition.  In the event, St Georges won the Senior Team prize and Charters took the runners up prize in the Intermediate section.  This reflected great credit on both schools and Charters came very close to winning.  St Gorges now moves onto the next round of the competition at a date to be confirmed but the venue is probably going to be the Abbey School in High Wycombe.
