INNER WHEEL NEWS

November 2009

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Pam Coopey opened the meeting by welcoming our District Chairman, Sallyanne Steatham. Pam then informed us that she and three members had attended the district meeting and reported on same. Shoe boxes are still needed for troops in Afghanistan despite TV coverage stating the opposite that goodies from service families must take priority. A cheque for £500 has been sent to ‘Help the Heroes’. Our thoughts are with several members who have been unwell and hope that 2010 will be a better year for all concerned.

Hilary Mear keeps us up-to-date with overseas requests; and informed us that Tom Conlin will visit us on 28th April, 2010. So we will be very keen hear the latest situation regarding that part of the world to which he takes his convoy of goods, some of which has been supplied by us.

Three members had recently attended Slough Inner Wheel Christmas lunch, where 115 people were seated. The speaker – a former secretary to the queen – gave a very interesting talk on her life.

If members are celebrating a ‘special’ birthday or anniversary, would they please inform Moira Smith?

Members and friends recently took a trip to Bath Christmas Market to visit the city and the Abbey. The weather was frightful but everyone enjoyed the day – with thanks to Pam Coopey for organizing the event.

At the Christmas Lunch to be held on 9th December, Pam has ordered a Charity Snowmen poster from Great Ormand Street Hospital; and members will be asked to buy a sticker to paste on the poster. Money raised will go to the Hospital. Members are reminded to bring to the lunch a lucky gift costing approximately £5. Christmas cards will not be exchanged.

A ‘frugal lunch’ costing £5 will be held at the home of Jane Short on Friday, 8th January, from 12 noon to

2 p.m.

It was agreed to challenge Rotary to a Skittles match. Details later if agreed.

We would like to send Christmas Greetings to all our Friends in the Rotary Club of Ascot.
