INNER WHEEL NEWS

October 2009

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Pam Coopey opened the meeting by welcoming four guests and our speaker,  Joanna Marshall.

Ellen Baker is recovering from a knee operation, and we send our best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Stephanie Lord is in Japan teaching aromatherapy.

The number of blankets completed continues to rise. Jacky Sheppard has knitted over 500 Teddies – which must surely be a record! The ‘penny pot’ collection each month continues to raise money for Water Aid. If members would like to send books, wrapped in brown paper, weighing less than 2 kg at a time,  to servicemen serving abroad they will be free of postage. These should be sent to Revd Peter Scott, Chaplain, DDO Log Regiment, Royal Marines, Bastion, BFPO 792.

More drivers are needed to deliver ‘meals on wheels’ for the Day Centre. Please contact Hilary Mear if you are able to help.

Next month our District Chairman, Sallyanne Streatham, will be visiting our club. She has requested that she does not wish to receive a gift. It was therefore agreed that we should spend £25 to buy ducklings for a family in Bangladesh. It was also agreed to send £500 to Army Reserve Centres to aid servicemen injured in Afghanistan.

Jo Marshall then gave a most interesting talk about the world of chocolate, and how different countries produce differing tastes. We were encouraged to try several tastings of very good quality chocolate with best additions. Surprisingly, after several tastings, one felt one had eaten quite a large amount!! Chocolates were available for sale at the conclusion of her talk.

Tickets, costing £14, for the trip to Bath Christmas Market on 2nd December are still available. Please contact Pam Coopey if interested.
