INNER WHEEL NEWS

September 2009

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Pam Coopey opened the meeting by thanking all those members who had assisted with the ‘progressive supper’ with a special mention for Barbara Reece who hosted all members and guests to enjoy desserts and coffee.

It has been suggested that Rotary and Inner Wheel might enjoy a day out at Midhurst to visit ‘Canine Partners’ – possibly next year.

Correspondence included many invitations to other Inner Wheel Club events; it also included a letter of resignation from honorary member Ruth Charles. A letter from Thornaby and Yarm Inner Wheel club was read by Moira Smith which gave news of their many activities.

Hilary Mear thanked members for the huge response she received to her request for items to be included in Tom Conlin’s next convoy. The knitters are still producing blankets which were well received. If we can get Tom Conlin to speak to us in the spring we would like to hear him again.

Poems were read by Cynthia Norris, Beryl Williams, Hilary Corio, Jacky Sheppard, Anne Sherman and Pam Coopey. Hilary Mear sang a rendition of ‘My Favourite Things’ about growing old. Members then enjoyed a small quiz that followed.

‘Christopher’s Smile’, a local children’s charity, is hosting a Pamper Evening at Mill Ride Golf Club on Thursday, 22nd October, 7 to 10 p.m., when massages and other beauty treatments will be available. Members wishing to participate should telephone 01276 457319 for more details.

Greetings were received from John and Jackie Lane who are settling well in their new house in France.

The recent Macmillan Coffee Morning held at the home of Anne Sherman was once again a great success raising in excess of £500 – a grand effort!

Tickets, costing £14, for the trip to Bath Christmas Market on 2nd December are now on sale.
