INNER WHEEL NEWS

        July 2009

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Pam opened the meeting by reporting on the recent garden party held at the home of Mike and Sue Price. The afternoon was a great success, despite the adverse weather conditions. Members and guests enjoyed the tea of home-made sandwiches and cakes served by our members who acted as hostesses. Final figures will be announced later.

It is with regret that we received a letter of resignation from Barbara Donovan. Our member, Moya Harvey (a very busy lady), has been inducted into the Rotary Club of Ascot, having transferred from the Rotary Club of Heathrow Airport.

Details of the Progressive Supper to be held in September will be published later.

Alice Pack reported on her recent visit to the Inner Wheel Club of Llanfairfechan and Penmaenmawr. She was made very welcome and was presented with a pennant which, in turn, she presented to President Pam for the club.

Many invitations have been received from other clubs.

For those members who have not yet paid, subscriptions of £40 are now due. Please forward to Margaret Penny.

A visit to the garden of Enid Blyton’s former home is planned for Wednesday, 19th August. Husbands may be included, but please inform Sue Price as parking arrangements must be made. Entrance fee is £4; afternoon tea and cakes are extra.

Once again, Anne Sherman has kindly offered to hold a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday, 25th September, from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. There will be a raffle and ‘bring-and-buy’. Please give generously.

The speaker at our August meeting will be Richard Poad who will give a presentation on ‘Women Pilots in WWII’ – a very interesting subject.

The September meeting will be a poetry reading – members are asked to read their favourite poem.

The October meeting will be a great attraction. Joanna Marshall, daughter-in-law of David, immediate past president of our Rotary Club, will tell us how she makes her delicious chocolates – with some to sell for eager customers.

There will be no ‘knit and natter’ in August.
