INNER WHEEL NEWS

        June 2009

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . The meeting opened with President Beryl saying that it was a great pleasure to see Rhoda Brown, who was accompanied by her daughter, back with us again. Flowers have been sent to Roslyn Walters who is recovering from a recent operation. Any news of illness, etc, please contact Alice Pack who would like to be notified.

President Beryl gave a report on her visit to District. She thanked everyone for their support during the year, and the many charities that we had supported. With still £700 available to spend, it was agreed to send £200 each to the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance, Daisy’s Dream, and The Parapet, and £100 to Cancer Research. A letter had been received from Stephanie Lord and FRODO thanking us for our donation and informing us that it was hoped to bring two people from Romania to learn our methods in looking after children.

Reports from the secretary, treasurer, overseas secretary and social secretary were then given. Alice Pack announced that she had received no correspondence this month but would be visiting our link club in Wales for their ‘Handover’ Meeting. Penny Pot collections continue each month, last month’s amounting to £32.02. Three more colourful blankets were displayed including a cot blanket with ‘teddy’ attached, sewn up by Ellen Baker.

Pam Coopey was then installed as our new President. Her first duty was to thank Beryl for all her hard work during this past year. She then presented her with a rose bush, aptly named ‘Well Done’; and an Inner Wheel Rosebud Brooch. Christine Valentine had agreed to stand as Vice-President; and the new committee members were given badges and welcomed.

Arrangements for our Inner Wheel Garden Party, which is being held on 8th July, from 2 p.m. at Queensmead, the home of Sue Price, are well in hand; with, we hope, members arriving at 1 p.m.

The date of the Progressive Supper has now been finalized for Friday, 18th September. Details will be given later.

Hilary Mear, who is now Overseas Secretary, suggested that she and David would like to raise extra money for the charity, by giving a concert followed by a tea party - possibly in October.

At the end of the proceedings members were shown a DVD, compiled by Sue Price, of Beryl’s year of activities – a wonderful memory of those occasions.

Please note that the annual subscription of £40 is now due; and from this July all cheques for dinner should be made payable to Mill Ride Golf Club.
