INNER WHEEL NEWS

        February 2009

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Beryl opened the meeting by thanking everyone for their support and help at the recent Birthday Lunch which was held in February. A special mention was given to Jackie Sheppard for the flower table decorations – these were much admired and eventually won by visitors. Jane Short was thanked for welcoming the visitors and escorting them to the tables; and Anne Sherman and Moya Harvey their hard work in organizing the raffle which raised £345. Cynthia Norris gave an unusual grace which even incorporated the credit crunch.

Hats, hats, everywhere, with slim models parading a huge selection of styles with a commentary from Margaret Partington. Some hats were available at the end of the proceedings. Ann Avens gave the vote of thanks.

Jane Short reported that the Penny Pot for January had raised £28.28. Everyone was thanked for their generosity. Further items needed for Tom Conlin will be known after the District Rally at Stokenchurch on 27th February. £400, the proceeds of the ‘Diminishing Tea Parties’, will be sent to the Fistula Hospital, Addis Ababa.

It was good to see Jean Leaman back with us after her knee surgery operation.

Alice Pack has requested news of members’ special birthdays or anniversaries - or the birth of grandchildren – to be included in The Spinning Wheel.

After our meeting we were joined by Rotarians to listen to a talk on Hope and Homes for Children given by Chief Executive, Rick Foulsham. This talk was followed by a DVD. He was certainly a marvellous ambassador for his charity, speaking for an hour without notes. Most of us had heard Mark Cook speak of his charity when he first envisaged his dream to help children. However, this talk brought us upo-to-date with latest developments which had spread to many more countries. A truly inspiring talk!
