INNER WHEEL NEWS

        November 2008

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Beryl opened the meeting by welcoming District Chairman, Dorothy Bell. She also welcomed, as a guest, Rhoda Brown’s daughter. It was proposed and seconded that the club should invite Ruth Charles to become an honorary member.

Reports were given by Sue Price, secretary, and Anne Jones, treasurer.  A discussion followed on how best Inner Wheel members can help older people who are living alone.

Christmas lunch, costing £18, to include mulled wine and crackers, will be held at Mill Ride Golf Club on 10th December. Members are asked to bring a wrapped gift, value £5, for a ‘lucky dip’.

A frugal lunch, costing £5, will be held at the home of Anne Jones on 9th January, 2009, as a preliminary to Inner Wheel Day which is on 10th January.

Dorothy Bell then proceeded to give a talk about her job as District Chairman. As always new officers are needed for the District Committee. Her chosen charity is ‘Shelterbox’, which is a box containing items sufficient to provide the needs for ten people who have been affected by some form of disaster. The Association Charity is Alzheimers and a national tea party will be held during February which will make people more aware of the distressing effect that this disease has on families and relatives. Dorothy was thanked for speaking to us. She was presented with a ‘Yellow Rose of Friendship’ and also a cheque for £100 for a Shelterbox.

For yet another year, on Friday, 12th December, from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., Alice Pack and Sonja Bowyer have kindly invited all members to a mulled wine, mince pies and coffee morning at Delfryn. Please let them know if you hope to join them.

We would like to send Christmas greetings to all our friends in the Rotary Club of Ascot, and to wish them well for 2009.
