INNER WHEEL NEWS

        September 2008

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Beryl opened the meeting by giving a warm welcome to Eileen Marshall, wife of the president of our Rotary Club; also to our two speakers for the evening, Sue Gruelich and Eileen Day.

The recent tea afternoon at the home of Margaret Partington was greatly enjoyed by 18 members. They were all given a hat to wear for the occasion and individual photos were taken as mementos of the event. Prizes were presented to three of our members who were closest to guessing the number of hats on display.

A list of invitations from other Inner Wheel clubs has been sent to each member – anyone wishing to participate in any of these functions should contact Jennifer Newport.

Jane Short was thanked for arranging the monthly walks which she has ably done for the past four years. She now feels that, as numbers appear to be dwindling, that maybe we should give this event a break

We send our best wishes to Gunnell Weiler, who has recently broken her arm; also to Mary Bowles who is recovering slowly after radical surgery. We hope that they make speedy recoveries and hope that they will soon feel strong enough to resume attending our meetings.

Our speakers then gave an impassioned talk about the Fikelela Aids Project Children’s Centre. This is a charity started by the Archbishop of Cape Town in 2002. They are desperately in need of financial support and we were pleased to present them with a cheque for £1000 – this was money raised from our garden party.

At the October meeting, members ars asked to wear something pink and donate £2 each for Cancer Research.
