INNER WHEEL NEWS

        August 2008

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Beryl opened the meeting by welcoming Ruth Charles as a guest who has supported us in many ways, including making the bunting used at our garden party.

The recent Progressive Supper was once again a great success, and special mention was made of the hostesses and helpers. This is supposed to be a ‘non-profit’ making event, but it somehow managed to raise £136.50, which will be added to our general fund.

Our thoughts are with Moya Harvey who has recently been undergoing radiotherapy treatment – but who still manages to remain cheerful.

At our September meeting we hope to welcome two representatives from Fikelela Aids, a charity based in South Africa, which supports children orphaned by aids, and to hear something of their work. As this is our president’s charity choice for the year, it is fitting that we shall be presenting them with a cheque for £1000. At this meeting also, we hope to welcome wives and partners of Rotarians who have not yet committed themselves to joining Inner Wheel to give them an insight into our work.

Jennifer Newport reported on a recent visit by five members to a tea given by Camberley Inner Wheel.

Dates for the Annual Conference and District Rally were given by Sue Price, who should be contacted by anyone wishing to attend either of these events. Invitations had also been received from other Inner Wheel Clubs.

A letter from our Welsh link club was read by Alice Pack.

Once again it is almost time for the Macmillan Coffee Morning which Anne Sherman has again offered to host. Regretfully, due to limited space available, she has had to spread this over two mornings – Thursday, 25th, and Friday, 26th September. Coffee and sandwiches will be provided - and everyone is welcome.
