INNER WHEEL NEWS

        July 2008

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Beryl opened the meeting by thanking members for all their help and support at the recent garden party which raised nearly £1500 after all expenses had been paid. Seventy-eight people attended and Christine and Ian Valentine were thanked for producing many photographs of the occasion.

Beryl Williams, Anne Jones, Sue Price and Jennifer Newport attended the district meeting on 17th July at Benson. Once again they were told that new members are to be encouraged.

Roslyn Walters said that she is making good progress – and thanked the members of the club for their good wishes and flowers.

The Association’s national charity is Alzheimers’ Society which is a subject that has recently been reported in the national press. Our District is having a walk in aid of that charity at Dinton Pastures on 27th September starting at 10 a.m. The cost will be £5.

The District charity is Shelter Boxes which cost £490 each. As far as supporting this charity we understand that it is to be discussed further.

Sue Price has been working very hard to produce a calendar of events for the whole of the Inner Wheel year, i.e. right up to the end of July 2009. With dates in mind, members are urged to be more active and to take on substitute roles for the main tasks.

It has been agreed to send £250 to Water Aid – this sum has been raised entirely from our donations to the ‘Penny Pot’ each month.

Tom Conlin hopes to make his next journey to Kosova in October and on this occasion would welcome dry good, e.g. pasta, rice, flour, etc. He has plenty of clothes and bedding at the moment but banana boxes (with lids if possible) are urgently needed as these are easy to stack.

The Spinning Wheel - our district newsletter – would welcome any reports or events for its half-yearly edition. Please let Sue Price have these together with any digital photographs which she will be happy to edit.

We congratulate Sonja Bowyer and Gwen Stearnes on being presented with certificates for Best Garden in Bloom, awarded by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
