INNER WHEEL NEWS
June 2008
Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Hilary opened the meeting by welcoming everyone – this being
her last ‘in charge’ duties. The recent ‘Blooming Great Tea Party’, held at the
home of Alice Pack, raised £136 for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Considering the
low attendance by members, which was disappointing, this was a great effort.
There
appears to have been a spate of illnesses and injuries during the past month
and we received a report on all those we heard about. Ros Walters has undergone
knee surgery; Pam Coopey and Beryl Williams had recently had falls; Anne
Sherman sustained an even more serious fall which left her with a badly bruised
face. Our best wishes and hopes of a speedy recovery go to all of them.

It was
also reported that a rota for ‘meals on wheels’ at Ascot Day Centre is
continuing but, if possible, more help would be welcome.
Despite
the poor weather, I understand that the Annual Garden Party, held at the home
of our president, Beryl Williams, on 2nd July, was a great success – the hats
were fabulous - and a report and
pictures appear on this month’s news and gossip in the e-bulletin. I hope to
give a full report and financial results in the next bulletin.
The
Progressive Supper is to be held on Friday, 1st August and plans are well in
hand.
Hilary
Corio gave a report on her year as president, thanking members of her committee
for all their help. She presented them each with a small bouquet in
appreciation. The chain of office was then presented to Beryl Williams as our
new president, and various badges distributed for the incoming year. Photographs
were then taken and Hilary was presented with a rose bush and an ornamental
willow.
Incoming
president, Beryl Williams, gave a resumé of her plans for the coming year; and
welcomed Pam Coopey as vice-president.
