INNER WHEEL NEWS

        May 2008

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . The meeting opened with President Hilary giving a report on proceedings of a meeting attended by presidents and incoming presidents. Each club is allowed two honorary members if wished – not four as we understood.

The next district meeting will be held on 17th July, 6.30 for 7 p.m. at Benson Village Hall.

One of the nicest duties for the outgoing president is to donate funds raised by us to various causes. This she did as follows: £800 to the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance; £250 to Ascot Day Centre – which was mainly raised by Sonja Bowyer and Gerda Birch with their Danish Evening;  and £60 to district for the Arthritis Research Council. The district charity is Talking Books of which £200 will be sent; also the Breast Cancer Campaign will receive £200. £100 to be sent to the Parapet and lastly £100 to be sent to Debra, a charity helping children suffering from skin diseases. The ‘penny-pot’ collections continue to raise money every month for Water Aid.

On Thursday 12th June, Alice Pack is holding a ‘Blooming Great Tea Party’ at her home from 2.30 to 4.30 Members are asked to support this. Raffle prizes will be welcome; also cakes, but not sandwiches. The afternoon is in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care – through Inner Wheel.

Interesting reports of recent club visits were given – which reminds me of years gone by when that was a regular feature of our meetings.

Arrangements for our Annual Garden Party, which this year is to be held at the home of our president, Beryl Williams, on 2nd July, are well in hand..

The Progressive Supper is to be held on Friday, 1st August. Details will be given later.

Gunnel Weiler reported that she had received a letter from a friend in Germany who has a girl of 13 years of age who wishes to make an exchange visit with a person of similar age in England. As many members no longer have young children, Barbara Donovan said that she may be able to help through school contacts.

The next ‘Knit and Natter’ will take place at the home of Jean Leaman.
