INNER WHEEL NEWS

March 2008

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . This month’s meeting was preceded by the Annual General Meeting with minutes being circulated for those who had not received them. The president gave her report on the year’s activities; and members were thanked for their help. It had been a busy year and subsequent reports were given by secretary Sue Price, in which she informed us that membership now stands at 39.

Anne Jones, treasurer, gave her report showing that the club is financially healthy – without the need to increase our annual subscription.

Jane Short, overseas chairman, gave her report stating her gratitude for the enormous support we had given to Tom Conlin in his efforts to take convoys of aid to Bosnia and Kosovo.

Alice Pack, Club correspondent, gave her report on our various link clubs and their activities; and she also looks after the health of our members sending flowers when appropriate.

Election of officers for the year 2008-2009 are as follows:

President – Beryl Williams

Vice-president – Pam Coopey

Secretary – Sue Price

Treasurer – Anne Jones

Overseas Officer – Jane Short

Social Secretary – Moya Harvey

Club Correspondent – Alice Pack

Health and Safety Officer – Barbara Reece

Birthday Cards to members – Sonja Bowyer

Photograph Album – Mary Bowles

Rotary Bulletin Contributor – Jacqui Butcher

Immediate Past President – Hilary Corio.

This concluded the Annual General Meeting.

The monthly meeting then followed with President Hilary thanking all the members who helped at the recent Birthday Anniversary Lunch which had been a great success, financially raising a good amount. A decorated card had been received from Valerie Caswell sending best wishes on our Charter Anniversary. Jean Leaman was thanked for arranging the birthday cake; and Jacky Sheppard was thanked for the floral table decorations. Moya Harvey and Anne Sherman were in charge of the raffle which raised £327.

Shoe boxes containing gifts for troops serving overseas had been greatly appreciated. If members are interested in continuing to donate in this way, please contact Roslyn Walters. Similarly, the Easter chicks, knitted by members, raised £60 at the last district meeting. Roslyn says that these too will still be welcome if members wish to continue. Roslyn then proceeded to update members with district news and guided us through the maze of voting with Hilary Corio.

At the Rotary District 1090 Conference to be held in Bournemouth on the week-end of Friday, 4th April, to Sunday, 6th April, members may be accompanied by husbands to the Inner Wheel session if they so wish.

Sonja Bowyer thanked members for flowers received recently following her illness and was pleased to be feeling well again.

The next District Overseas Service Rally is to be held on 24th April at Stokenchurch – cost £7.50. Anyone wishing to attend please contact Jane Short as she has room in her car.

Jennifer Newport’s granddaughter is running in the Flora London Marathon on Sunday, 13th April, in aid of Motor Neurone Disease in memory of her grandfather Malcolm who, as many will remember was a member of the Rotary Club of Ascot for many years. Members were keen to sponsor her and help to raise the £2000 needed.
