INNER WHEEL NEWS

January 2008

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Hilary opened the meeting by wishing all members a happy new year; she also welcomed our guest speaker, Rev. Canon Trevor Walt, MBE. After dinner our speaker gave us a most interesting talk. He had worked for the past 36 years in various capacities at Broadmoor Hospital. He qualified as a psychiatric nurse, and then, in 1986, was ordained priest. He afterwards became chaplain to Broadmoor. He is obviously dedicated to his vocation entertaining us with many amusing anecdotes.

On Inner Wheel Day, Thursday, 10th January, the frugal lunch, held at the home of Jane Short, proved very popular, the result of which was that £180 was donated to ‘Mercy Ships’.

The challenge to Rotary to meet us for a ‘Skittles Evening’ has been taken up. The event will take place at the Jack O’ Newbury, Binfield, on Friday, 15th February. The cost will be £10 to include a light supper.

Sonja Bowyer and Gerda Birch have joined forces to invite members to a Danish Supper at the day Centre. This has been provisionally booked for Wednesday, 9th April. More details and confirmation of date later.

A possible trip to the Watermill Theatre, Newbury, to see the play ‘Sunset Boulevard’ later in the year will be arranged if there is sufficient interest.

Barbara Reece is recovering well at home after her operation, and hopes to be back in circulation soon.

Roslyn Walters has a pattern for knitting ‘Easter Chicks’. We hope that members will produce sufficient to be sold at the next District Meeting.

Our Birthday Anniversary Lunch will be held at the Carnation Hall, Winkfield Row, on Friday, 7th March. The cost is £18 for a two-course lunch and coffee, provided by Linda’s Kitchen. All proceeds will go to Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance. Tickets are now available from Sue Price.
