INNER WHEEL NEWS

            October 2007

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . Members were wearing pink for the Breast Cancer Campaign when President Hilary opened our meeting. She began by welcoming District Chairman Linda Bobby; she then referred to the previous weekend when several members had accompanied the Rotarians to Wells, where wonderful fellowship was enjoyed by all. Moya was thanked for organizing the Chinese meal at Hyns; and also the Indian meal at Rajwoog, all of which, I understand, was much enjoyed.

Arrangements for the Christmas lunch are well in hand. This will take place on Wednesday, 12th December, 12.30 for 1 p.m. at Mill Ride Golf Club. The cost will be £20 for a two-course meal, and will include mulled wine on arrival.

On Inner Wheel Day, Thursday, 10th January, at 12.30 p.m., members are invited to a ‘frugal lunch’ at the home of Jane Short. Money raised will go to ‘Mercy Ships’.

Our Birthday Lunch next year will be held at Carnation Hall on Friday, 7th March. More details later, but please book the date now.

The next District Meeting, which takes place at Benson, will be on Tuesday, 20th November. We have been asked to act as hostesses. Would any member who wishes to volunteer, please contact Sue Price.

Members were asked to continue donating toiletries for Kosovo, but please keep clothing, etc, until the spring when the next convoy will be leaving.

Anne Sherman and Barbara Reece were thanked for hosting the recent Macmillan Coffee Morning which raised the grand sum of £522.50 – a superb effort. Anne Jones was also thanked for organizing last month’s walk.

Linda Bobby then spoke to us about Inner Wheel and her role in it. Her motto this year is ‘Live for Today’ and her charity is the Arthritis Research Campaign. She was impressed by the fact that we have such a vibrant club, and with such a close relationship with our Rotary Club – which we are pleased to continue. Hilary then presented her with a crystal vase and a cheque for £200 for her charity.
