INNER WHEEL NEWS

September 2007

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Hilary opened the meeting by welcoming Roslyn Walters to our meeting; also with a special welcome back to Mary Bowles who gave us such a shock last month when we heard that she had undergone surgery. Birthday greetings were extended to Jane Short whose birthday it was on our meeting day.

We were able to distribute funds to charities as follows: £200 to the Arthritis Research Campaign; £200 to be given to mothers and babies with HIV; £100 to Happy Days’ charity towards holidays for children with special needs.

Our national President’s charity for this year is Talking Books for the Blind. These cost £1000 each and thus our support for this charity will be discussed further.

Stephanie Lord, June Martin and Roslyn Walters were each presented with a yellow Rose of Friendship and welcomed formally into the club.

Jane Short, overseas secretary, thanked members for all their generous contributions of toiletries, medicines, dried fruit, etc, to Tom Conlin. Another completed blanket, knitted by Jacqui Butcher, was displayed and another 50 teddies sent from Jackie Sheppard. Contributions may still be collected for the next convoy to Kosovo which will be in March. The August Penny Pot raised £29.37.

News of our link club in Wales was read by Alice Pack. As there was no speaker this month, members enjoyed a light-hearted quiz.

On Friday, 28th September, members and friends enjoyed a coffee morning at the home of Barbara Reece, in aid of Macmillan Nurses. A bring-and-buy stall and raffle added to the proceeds – the total amount raised has yet to be finalized.

It was agreed that this year we will hold our Christmas lunch on Wednesday, 12th December, at Mill Ride Golf Club – more details later.
