INNER WHEEL NEWS

        May 2010

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Pam Coopey opened the meeting by welcoming Mr Boardman, our speaker for the evening, his wife and a visitor.

A letter had been received from Tom Conlin who greatly appreciated the support of the Ascot Club, saying that we were one of his most active supporters; and hoping that we can continue to provide such vital commodities.

The Bridge Evening for Thursday, 10th June, promises to be well attended. Members gave £1 each towards raffle prizes – proceeds will go to the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance.

Sue Price asked members to give her photos of events that have taken place in Pam’s year.

We hope it will be a fine summer day when we hold our Garden Party on 20th July. The venue this year is to be the home of Edith Hunter. Invitations have been sent to our friends in neighbouring clubs.  Linda’s Kitchen is to provide the catering. Sales tables will include greetings cards, home produce and a few books in good condition. Members who have not donated cards still have time to do so.

There will be a Progressive Lunch on Sunday, 15th August. Details for this will be given later.

Looking ahead, the District Overseas Rally is to be held on Tuesday, 12th October, at Bourne End Community Centre. Ascot has agreed to provide tea for 100+ people. At least 12 volunteers are required so if you feel you can help, please contact Chris Valentine.

The Rotary Club of Ascot is to hold a Fashion Show on Friday, 22nd October at The Cordes Hall, Sunninghill. Members of Inner Wheel are helping with modelling and assistance at both back and front stage. Money raised is to be shared between Inner Wheel and Rotary.

Best wishes are sent to Anne Sherman who has recently undergone surgery.

Mr Boardman then gave a most interesting talk on gems. He spoke about a wide variety of stones that belong to the same ‘family’, where they are mined and how they vary in colour and quality. At the end of the talk members were able to view samples of various stones.
