INNER WHEEL NEWS

        March 2010

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Pam Coopey opened the meeting by asking Anne Sherman to say grace. She actually read a prayer which she had heard on a recent Songs of Praise programme spoken by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Then followed the Annual General Meeting with a report on the year’s activities given by President Pam Coopey and subsequent reports by members of the committee.

Election of officers for the year 2010 – 2011 are as follows:

President – Chris Valentine; Secretary – Hilary Mear; Treasurer – Margaret Penny;

Correspondent – Moira Smith; Connections Officer – Alice Pack; Health and Safety Officer – Barbara Reece;

Birthdays – Sonja Bowyer; Rotary Bulletin Officer – Jacqui Butcher; Apologies – Mary Bowles

Immediate Past President – Pam Coopey

The following offices are still vacant: Vice-president; District Overseas Officer; Events Social Secretary.

This concluded the annual general meeting.

The usual business of the monthly meeting then followed with President Pam thanking members for all their help given at the Birthday Tea. Jacky Sheppard was thanked for the floral table decorations which, at the end of the proceedings, were presented to the person on each table who had had the most recent birthday.

Association sent us details of the Yorkshire Tea Appeal; bar codes should be saved and given to Sue Price – 750 credits buy a wheelchair. News from our link clubs had been received. ‘News at Nine’, the district newsletter, were given to members and the Ascot Club received two mentions – with photographs!! Our contributions to Tom Conlin’s convoy have now been taken to the warehouse, and we looking forward to hearing Tom Conlin speak to us at our April meeting. The money raised from the Frugal Lunch realised £100 which will be given to help pay for the fuel for this next convoy.

A message had been received from Gerda Birch giving us news of her recovery which is slow – but progressing!

Invitations and events from other Inner Wheel Clubs, together with Rotary functions, are now circulated – which is a great help for us all especially those with a short memory.

The District Rally held on Friday, 26th March was well attended by seven of our members. It proved a thoroughly enjoyable day, meeting up with other members from our district.

Please note that the cost of the evening meal at Mill Ride is to be increased to £14.75 as from the April meeting.

Alice Pack has recently been involved in a questionnaire for 80-year-olds conducted by Reading University. The interview lasted over 2½ hours!! She is now awaiting the outcome.
