INNER WHEEL NEWS

        February 2010

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . With President Pam Coopey away, Chris Valentine ably took the meeting – and she welcomed Gunnel Weiler back on a visit to Ascot.

We received a letter from our District Chairman thanking us for our hospitality when she visited our club last month.

Members attending the Birthday Tea Party on 17th March are requested to be at the hall by 1 p.m. The usual catering arrangements apply with hostesses bringing tablecloths, teapots, etc. There will be a raffle with good prizes.

Members going to Sonning Mill on 6th May should pay Pam Coopey as soon as possible.

The treasurer’s report showed that we are in a healthy state; and seven members have booked to attend the District Rally on Friday, 26th March.

Many invitations had been received from other clubs and lists circulated to members. These now also include Rotary functions.

Our Overseas Secretary was very comprehensive. Contributions for Tom Conlin’s convoy on 13th March had brought a huge response.

It was much regretted that the Musical Concert on Friday 23rd April showed no response at present – perhaps we are trying too hard to do too many things.

The recent disaster in Madeira was mentioned and, with her other hat on, Hilary Mear asked for help on Red Cross Day, Saturday, 8th May. Anyone willing to spare an hour at Longacres Nursery would be much appreciated.

There are still vacancies on the committee for next year. Chris Valentine is planning ahead for a light lunch in Edith Hunter’s garden in July (date to be confirmed). Members received a questionnaire regarding the future of our club.

It was decided to hold the Christmas Lunch at Mill Ride this year.

We were shocked to hear that Gerda Birch had suffered a severe fall after our meeting on 26th February, which resulted in her suffering a badly broken ankle. This resulted in an ambulance being called and her subsequent hospitalization.
