INNER WHEEL NEWS

         January 2010

Jacqui Butcher writes . . . President Pam Coopey opened the meeting wishing all members a happy new year. On a sad note we learned that Gwen Stearnes and Jean Pilchick had suffered family bereavements – and our thoughts were with them both.

The trip to Bath Christmas Market was enjoyed by all despite the bad weather. The ‘frugal’ lunch, which was to be held in January was postponed due to snowy conditions. It was later held at the home of Jane Short on 5th February. To date we have not received details of the result.

Plans are well in hand for our Birthday Tea which takes place on 17th March at the British Legion Hall, Hatchet Lane, Cranbourne, at a cost of £5 for members and £7.50 for guests (and there will also be a raffle). Tickets are available from Chris Valentine. Members are asked to supply various sandwiches, cakes, etc. for our tea parties are renowned. It is requested that each hostess should supply tablecloth, tea pot, milk jug and sugar bowl. It was agreed that the club should purchase a water urn.

Many invitations had been received from other clubs and circulated – anyone interested should contact Chris Valentine.

The District Rally is being held at Coppid Beech Hotel, Bracknell, on Friday, 20th March. Prior to the Rally there will be a service at Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church, Wokingham. So far seven members have shown an interest in attending.

We are challenging the Rotary Club to skittles on Friday, 16th April, 7.30 p.m. at The Foresters Arms, Jenkins Hill, Bagshot (opposite Notcutt’s Nursery). The cost will be £12 to include a meal.

On Friday, 23rd April at 2.30 p.m. at the Royal British Legion Hall, Cranbourne, there will be a musical concert and tea, organized by Hilary Mear, in aid of overseas charities. The cost is £8.

Sue Price is developing a club website which will give details of Ascot Inner Wheel activities. This would include photographs of members. If anyone objects to this, please let Sue know.

On 10th February Chris Valentine invited members to join her for lunch, 12.30 for 1 p.m., at The Carpenters’ Arms, Sunninghill, at a cost of £10.

A trip to The Mill at Sonning is being organized by Pam Coopey to see Agatha Christie’s ‘Love from a Stranger’. Please let Pam know if interested. Thinking a long way ahead, members voted to have our next Christmas lunch at La Cloche, Carpenters’ Arms, Sunninghill, on 10th December 2010.

Knit and Natter next meeting will be on 1st March, 10.30 a.m., at the home of Jennifer Newport. Please remember to let her know if you can attend.
