Friends Programme, October 2007At the October Friends meeting we had a joint meeting with Ascot Round Table and Ascot 41 Club, and were privileged to welcome Historian Peter Caddick-Adams who spoke on " Military Strategy and lessons to be learnt in modern warfare from the First and Second World War battlefields of Northern France, Belgium and Holland ". A fascinating and thought provoking presentation. For the November Friends meeting we are very pleased to welcome back Lynn Walters who spoke to us in June 2004 on A year as the Master of The Worshipful Company of Horners. The Guild of Horners existed in the City of London records in 1284. In 1638, King Charles 1 granted the Horners a Royal Charter and in 1943 there was recognition by the Company that plastics had largely replaced horn. Today the Company maintains and combines its ancient links to the City of London and to the modern Plastics Industry, while seeking to support the traditional Horner craft. Lynn is a member of the Rotary Club of Easthamstead and is known for his wit and will speak on this occasion on The City of London - a Livery Past-Master's view. I had the privilege of travelling with Lynn to London recently and he recounted the past three years experiences of being a Past Master in the City of London. Those who attended the June 2004 presentation will remember a truly fascinating talk this promises to be no different. Format for the evening 1900 - 1930 - Meet in the bar
