Friends Programme, May 2009

For the May Friend’s meeting we were pleased to welcome back for the fourth time David Duff whose talk this time was “The Schlieffen Plan” - how Germany lost the 1st World War in the first eight weeks – but also included a European History of the German Peoples from AD9 – a great talk.

For the June Friend’s meeting we have an evening with a difference - a conducted circular walk from 1900 to 2030 given by Windsor Great Park Superintendent Bill Cathcart to be followed by a Buffet fellowship at the York Club. It will also be open to our wives/partners and the first 40 acceptances of this invitation will be accepted - the maximum number of persons on the conducted walk is 40 persons (nominally 20 Friends/Rotarians + wives/partners). Those that do not wish to come on the walk or are not part of the first 40 acceptances and would like to come to the York Club with a Fellowship evening and Buffet are invited to meet in the York Club bar at 2000 for 2030.

The brisk 90 minute Circular Walk with Bill Cathcart will be through medieval pastures where we shall see trees as ancient as the Castle, a Royal Managerie and a Hunting Lodge with a remarkable story concerning a famous horse. Bill Cathcart gave one of the first Friends Talks some 5 years ago about the Trees of the Great Park and fascinating it was too but to hear first hand from the Park Superintendent will be a privilege.

Format for the evening

1900 - 2030 – Circular Walk from/to York Club with Bill Cathcart
2000 - 2030 - Meet at the York Club Bar for those not wishing/able to go on the walk but attending the Buffet fellowship.

Peter
