Friends Programme, June 2009

For the June Friend’s meeting we had an evening with a difference - a conducted circular walk with our ladies from the York Club in Windsor Great Park by Windsor Great Park Superintendent Bill Cathcart followed by a Buffet fellowship at the York Club. The 90 minute Circular Walk with Bill Cathcart through medieval pastures was fascinating and the fellowship at the York Club buffet following was enjoyed by all.

For the July Friend’s meeting we are pleased to welcome Alan Copeland who will give the first of two talks about the Curiosities of the Chilterns. A fast-moving circular tour of the Chilterns looking at the odd, rare and unusual aspects of life many years ago starting and finishing in Reading, Berkshire. Part One looks at the city of Reading before moving east towards Maidenhead, Cookham and Windsor and then north via Amersham and Berkhamsted right in to the mid-Chilterns countryside returning through Wendover, Thame and Beaconsfield finishing with the area around High Wycombe.

For the August Friend’s meeting we are very pleased to welcome back Martin Bell, a Friend of the Rotary Club of Ascot and known to us all, and John Oblein a friend of Martin’s, who will run for the fifth successive year their fun quiz evening based on topical subjects for all ages!

Both of these Friends evenings will be an opportunity for both Rotarians and current Friends to bring new Friends and Neighbours to these enjoyable monthly meetings as we seek to expand the active RCA Friends list by 20+ people back to 40+ people we used to enjoy. To date 18 Friends have joined the Rotary Club of Ascot over the last 5 years – 14 are still current members.
