Friends Programme, June 2008For the June Friends meeting and President Ians last Friends evening, we were very pleased to welcome back for the second time Ian Keable who gave us a memorable and very funny Evening of Magic. For the July Friends meeting and President elect Davids first Friends evening we are very pleased to welcome Hugh Davies. Hugh is the inventor of the Passfaces user authentication system and founder of Visage Developments Limited. Hugh was presented with a Smart award for the early development of Passfaces by the UK government. He additionally received the British Computer Society Technical Innovation prize. Today, Hugh's main interest is WW II Intelligence on which he gives public talks and is a guide at Bletchley Park, the world famous WW II Code Breaking Centre. Hugh, who is a regular speaker on the Cruise ships, has agreed to provide us with a trilogy of talks in each of the next three Rotary years. The first on July 9th this year will be:-- "Enigma - How cracking the enemy codes led to the world's first computer." "All the experts have stated unanimously that there is no possibility that Enigma messages have been deciphered and read by the enemy". This German message was deciphered and read by the enemy - we at Bletchley Park! . So how did we do it? And what advantage did it give us? Format for the evening 1900 - 1930 - Meet in the bar Kind regards Peter |
