Our second Friends of the Rotary Club of Ascot meeting in 2009 takes place on Wednesday 11th February 2009 at 1900 for 1930 at the Mill Ride Golf Club North Ascot (www.mill-ride.com ). Please note that this meeting also co-incides with the 60th year of the Rotary Club of Ascot. The celebration of this day will be formally celebrated in May. However the chef of Mill Ride has promised to mark the February 11th 2009 date with a special meal for the normal price courtesy of Mill Ride Golf Club. For the January Friend’s meeting, we were privileged to welcome back for a second lecture, Dr. Peter Caddick-Adams, Author, Military Historian, Defence Analyst, Battlefield Tour Guide, Broadcaster who spoke on "Military Strategies in Iraq and Afghanistan”. A brilliant 50 minute talk was followed by an equally vigorous 30 minute Q&A session which in turn was followed by an outstanding Vote of Thanks from Alan Clare – which all combined to make it a memorable evening. For the February Friends meeting on Wednesday 11th February we are very pleased to welcome back Richard Snailham for the fifth time in the 6th year of the Friends Program – giving a talk entitled “Retracing the Lost Trade Routes of Ancient South American Peoples”. Richard has spoken to us previously in the Friends program on “Walk to the base camp of Mount Everest”, “Hidden Corners of Brittany”, “The Falklands in Winter” and “The Blue Nile”. Richard was a Senior Lecturer at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst for 25 years and is a worldwide expedition leader. He has participated in over 25 overseas expeditions and leader of 20 overseas tours. These include Ethiopia, China, Bolivia, Ecuador, Nepal, Mongolia and the Falklands. He is the Honorary Foreign Secretary of the Royal Geographical Society. To date he has given over 1500 talks, to a wide range of organisations Format for the evening 1900 - 1930 - Meet in the bar |
