Club Service July September 2006Planning the yearThe new Club Service committee held its first (transitional) meeting at the end of June to formulate a plan to put to the club for the coming year. The plan is broadly divided between fundraising projects and fellowship activities. Our key fundraising projects are:
Other fund raising and public relations activities include:
On the Fellowship front, we have a busy agenda, kicking off with the all-weather Summer Barbeque on August Bank Holiday Monday, a bowls afternoon at Sunningdale Bowling Club in September, the first of the Jazz Evenings at Jagz and a trip to the New Victoria theatre for a performance of Guys and Dolls in November, and the club Christmas Dinner in December. In 2007 we continue with two further jazz nights and the Race Night, for which dates are fixed. We are also investigating a number of other activities including at least one more theatre trip, and possibly a treasure hunt and a Polo Day. Progress to DateThe all-weather barbeque lived up to its name, as the majority of attendees looked at the cloudy skies and chose the indoor option. Nevertheless it was enjoyed by some 30 participants. Following the successful car park project during Royal Ascot, we were offered the option to run a car park service at Budgens during the Diamond Meeting this was not a success due to the availability of low cost or free parking elsewhere in the vicinity. The Sunningdale Carnival rerun on 10th September was less successful than hoped, but this is always a mix of Public Relations and money raising. Due to a combination of reasons we were not able to get enough supporters on the day to do justice to the stall, but this should not deter us from participating in the 2007 carnival. The bowls afternoon at Sunningdale Bowling Club on 30th September was enjoyed by the 24 attendees, most of whom had not bowled before. The weather was mixed, and a short sharp shower mid afternoon sent the teams back to the pavilion, but the sky soon cleared and play continued until tea, which was provided by the bowling club. The Wheelbarrow Race planning is well under way, with paperwork submitted to the local authority and the police. We still need to tackle the major issue of getting teams, any volunteers?
