Club Services Resumé for Year 2005-6

As always Club Service Committee has worked very hard during President Alan Penny's year and the committee organised numerous events which are as follows:

  1. A visit to the Watermill Theatre, Newbury, to see a production of Mac & Mabel, which has now transferred to the London stage.
  2. A visit to Woking Theatre to see Miss Saigon also took place which was enjoyed by all those who attended.
  3. Although Club Service was not directly involved the Club supported Ascot Round Table in helping out on their Fireworks Night.
  4. In November we participated in the Victorian evening in Sunninghill, where we had a mountain of books to and the surplus was kindly picked up after the event by Roy Bowles Transport and given to Book Aid.
  5. During the year David Jones organised for the Club various social Jazz Evenings which were well received.
  6. In November a Day Trip on a Sunday was organised to celebrate Trafalgar Day, for which thanks must go to Barbara and Geoff Donovan who in their inimitable way kept us all under control!
  7. We were fortunate to have two days outside Waitrose collecting with David Jones and colleagues providing festive music.
  8. Christmas Dinner with the Ladies was at a change of venue which proved very popular at the Royal Berkshire Hotel.
  9. The Club Service were not directly involved but participated in organising, in conjunction with Ascot Round Table, the Wheelbarrow Race which is held in Sunninghill Village.
  10. In the early New Year a number of us attended 5 Clubs Dinner which on this occasion was organised by Easthampstead who were celebrating their 25th Anniversary.
  11. The Bournemouth Conference was well attended by the members and indeed the widows of the Club. The fellowship provided a good opportunity to those who had never been before to get to know some of the "old codgers"!
  12. Another visit to Woking Theatre to see Simply Ballroom also provided an opportunity to relive some of the magnificent dancing we saw in the series of Strictly Ballroom on TV earlier in the year.
  13. A successful visit to Savill Gardens proved to be an enjoyable evening albeit the weather could have been kinder. The talk proved to be enlightening.
  14. Sunningdale Carnival arrangements are now well in hand. We are having a stall at the Carnival and in view of our lack of wishing to cart heavy books the stall will be of a competition nature, having to guess the age of the Queen in various photographs during her lifetime.
  15. In June the President's handover will be at Dorney Reach, another first for the Club.
  16. During the summer we arranged speakers for the 5th Wednesday which have included local business people including a former member of the Club, Nicolas Dawson, from Sunningdale School.

New tabards have been bought and a new banner was purchased. The Committee have had the usual meetings which as an experiment some have been arranged at my office at 6p.m. but regretfully very few members were able to attend and therefore reverted to Committee Meetings at various members homes which as always proved a good social evening.

It was with great disappointment that we were unable to hold a Charity Dinner at the Race Course due to the construction programme but the "powers that be" at the Race Course have indicated that they are willing to let us organise such a function later in the year.

We have welcomed new members who have come forth from the Friends evenings and in this connection the new committee need to organise name badges for them.

It has been a busy year but one I think we have all enjoyed both on the social front and profitable as far as our charitable income is concerned.

I have not mentioned the youth concerts as I believe this does not directly involve Club Service as is the Golf Day. My thanks go to all who have helped within the committee during the past year.

Chairman, Club Service Committee 2005-6
