Rotary
Club provides aid to Pakistan
The Rotary Club of Ascot responded to the
calls for aid after the flood disasters in Pakistan with the provision of 15
Water Survival
Boxes. Each of these bright
red boxes is a rigid, reinforced 54 litre plastic container that becomes a
receptacle for water when emptied of survival items. It includes a filtration pack and chlorine
tablets – enough for family of 4 for some 4 months, plus essential survival
items such as mugs to drink out of, cooking pots, bowls to eat from, spoons,
antiseptic spray, cotton materials and needles and thread to make basic
clothes. It also includes basic tools, tarpaulin
and bungee cords to make a simple shelter.
Rotary Club President Beverley Williams said “We were all taken aback to realise the magnitude of the disasters in Pakistan, and I was heartened to see how many Rotarians have made personal donations to fund one of these boxes, as well as those funded from the Club charity fund.”
The boxes, which cost £150 each, have been air-lifted to Islamabad,
and are now being deployed in the affected regions.
