One hundred golfers took part in The Rotary Club of Ascot’s fourth Annual Charity Golf Day. The event was run in partnership with The Children with Special Needs Foundation (CWSNF) at the Chobham Golf Club on Thursday 16th August.
Adger Brown (the comedian who took the part of Captain Jester in ‘The Comedians Golf Society) provided humorous continuity to the evening and in operating an auction persuaded those present to swell the profits to a record £13,800. All this money will be used to support local needs.
CWSNF specialises in identifying individuals or groups whose needs are not met by the community or where a child’s life might be improved by provision of special facilities. This year half the golf day profits will be augmented by CWSNF to provide a total of £11,500 for improved facilities at Charters School.
The Charters Special Needs Unit (SENCO) at the school will receive ten specially adapted computer laptops together with trolleys to enable the pupils to manoeuvre themselves and their machines to where they need them. Additionally an awning will be supplied to protect the children in wheelchairs when outside the classroom.
The main sponsors were Ascot Racecourse, Boehringer Ingleheim and Eiffel.
Additionally over 50 local businesses responded generously by donating prizes for all the events thus ensuring that all takings could be used for charity.
The golfers enjoyed a very full day. A morning nine-hole Texas Scramble was won by the narrowest of margins by a team from Boehringer Ingleheim. In the afternoon a team from The Royal Ascot Golf Club who called themselves the ‘Ragpack’ won the day’s main competition – an 18 hole Stableford.
