Windsor Castle Reception for Rotary Clubs

Senior Officers from the Rotary Club of Ascot and nine neighbouring Rotary Clubs in the Thames Valley were the guests of Sir Richard and Lady Johns at a reception in the Norman Tower of Windsor Castle on Monday (10th July).  The event was to recognise the donation of £5,000 made by the Rotary Clubs to buy and train a Hearing Dog for a deaf person.

As well as being the Constable and Governor of Windsor Castle, Sir Richard is the President of “Hearing Dogs for Deaf People”, a charity which provides and trains Hearing Dogs to assist people deaf to live a fuller and more independent life.  A typical Hearing Dog can alert its owner to alarm clocks, cooker timers, doorbell, telephone, smoke alarms and burglar alarms.

The dog that was funded by the donation from the Rotary Clubs is a pure bred Springer Spaniel called “Amy”.  Amy was selected from Battersea Dogs’ Home, and after health checks, socialisation and training, she has now been placed with a deaf lady in Berkshire.

During the reception, guests were able to visit not only the Norman tower, but also the moat garden, viewed from the terrace of the tower.

The Rotary Clubs who contributed to this donation were: Ascot, Cookham Bridge, Langley & Iver, Maidenhead, Maidenhead Thames, Marlow, Marlow Thames, Slough, Windsor & Eton, and Windsor St. George.
