Clubs Sponsor Children’s Concert
The Rotary Clubs of Ascot and Wokingham have
combined forces to sponsor a children’s concert on Sunday 26th
February at 6:30 p.m. in the Hexagon theatre in Reading. Children from 12 local primary schools will
be performing “The Rhythm of Life”, which tries to capture the ‘essentials’ of
each season of the year through song, dance and drama. Over 400 seven to nine year old children will
perform in the concert. In addition to
those singing, others will act, dance, play instruments and entertain the
audience of parents and friends
The concert coordinator is Clive Waterman, and this concert is the most recent in a long line of such ventures which Clive has undertaken since his first back in 1975. However, this concert is the first to involve children from the Maidenhead & Ascot area. Clive is the leader of Wokingham’s ‘Music For All’ project which aims to give additional concert and performance opportunities to as many of the district’s primary school children as possible. In recent years he has taken on the management and conducting of the Reading Schools Annual Concert.
Rotary Club of Ascot President, Alan Penny, said “The Rotary Clubs of Ascot and Wokingham are delighted to have been involved in the sponsorship and organisation of tonight’s concert. This is probably the first time that many youngsters in the Royal Borough will have had the opportunity to perform live on such a large stage.”
Tickets for the concert are sold out, so the children are guaranteed a full house and an appreciative audience for their performance. As well as parents, friends and teachers, senior officials of the local Rotary organisation, including the District Governor, will be present.
