Successful Charity Golf Day supports the Air Ambulance

The Rotary Club of Ascot held its second Charity Golf Day at the Chobham Golf Club recently, raising an estimated £6,500 for local charities.  Around 70 golfers enjoyed a full day of golf, including a nine hole Texas Scramble and an eighteen hole Stableford Competition.  Along the way the golfers were challenged to achieve ‘the longest drive’, ‘get nearest the pin’ and ‘land on the green’.  Local businesses generously sponsored all the holes and the various challenges during the day.

In the evening a gala reception was attended by about 130 guests, including golfers, Rotarians and friends.  A charity auction augmented the profits, the highlight being a Chelsea football shirt signed by all last year’s winning team, which sold for £600.

The day was all in the aid of local charities, the main beneficiary being the Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance.  Representing the Air Ambulance, (Mrs.) Stevie Horton reported on a recent typical day’s action; attending at a light aircraft crash at Remenham, a road traffic accident at Newbury, and a medical emergency at Whitney.

Alan Penny, the President of The Rotary Club of Ascot presented a cheque for £3,000 to Stevie Horton, which represented the minimum share expected from the day’s activities.  Later, President Alan reminded those attending the gala dinner that the Air Ambulance depends entirely on voluntary contributions to keep flying, and that as a result of its fundraising efforts over the past eighteen months, the Rotary Club of Ascot has provided enough funds to keep the Air Ambulance in fuel for around three months flying.
